The Committee of 500

Dear Committee of 500 Members,

As you know, November's election results were not favorable to our vision for Spotsylvania. Our endorsed candidates (Bell, Holmes, Logan and Connors) lost. This set-back was particularly disappointing in the case of Jerry Logan and Hap Connors, two well-respected incumbents. (Hap lost by only 26 votes and Jerry by 61 votes.)

C500 endorsed these four candidates because we believed they would help Spotsylvania continue to invest in the fundamentals of a great community—education, public safety, transportation and recreation—while still keeping taxes low and our credit rating up. We hope to work with the newly-elected supervisors to advance the same agenda.

Thank you to all Committee of 500 members who supported our campaign efforts by canvassing, stuffing newspaper boxes, working the polls, writing letters to the editor and making donations. These activities, together with advertising, mailers and the C500 Free Lance-Star opinion piece, made a positive difference for our candidates.

With C500-supported supervisors now forming a minority on the Board, we will need to work even harder to encourage county government actions that make a great community. We have sent a congratulatory letter to all the new supervisors and are offering each supervisor an opportunity to meet with C500 board members to discuss areas of concern.

We hope we can count on your support as we begin this new chapter.
