The Committee of 500 (C500) is a non-partisan political action committee that was organized in 2003. Its original purpose
was to help elect Spotsylvania County Supervisors who would be responsible to county voters particularly with regard to growth
and development. In 2006, C500 was reorganized and broadened into an ongoing political and community action organization.
C500 works hard on a continuing basis to be a respected voice for citizens and taxpayers who want an efficient and responsive
county government directed by highly capable individuals who are accountable for its governance, planning and operations.
“Smart Growth Management” is a fundamental Principal of C500. We believe that development should not only pay
for its impacts on services and infrastructure, but should also be a net contributor to the community and to our citizens’
quality of life.
Membership in the Committee is open to any Spotsylvania resident, other than sitting members of and candidates for the Board
of Supervisors. The suggested C500 annual membership dues are $25 per person, which are used to help support our PAC and community
efforts. However, full and equal C500 membership is granted to any individual regardless of the amount actually contributed.

C500 is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of the Chair, Vice Chair, Immediate Past Chair, Treasurer, and up to seven
additional C500 members, as well as a our membership at-large that participates fully in our position statements and activities
to support our mission.
The Committee of 500 holds at least two meetings of the entire membership annually as well as various issue-specific meetings.
There are extensive opportunities for members to become actively involved through both meetings and a range of committees
that help carry out our mission.
